"Who
the Hell is Circle The Wagons?" you may ask. You may
be sorry you did...
Circle the Wagons
hail from the mighty mountains of Nelson, B.C. An area known more
for hippies and granola than screaming punk rock and Marshall stacks.
Formed in 2001
by twin hair bags, Mike Maggot and Paddy Duddy, the band cut a smouldering
swath through their local music scene. Convinced that they were
more than just good looks, the three-piece, power-punk outfit hit
the road.
Rooted
in dangerously fast 3-chord punk of yester-year, and borrowing heavily
from Black Sabbath, the band literally flattens the audience's cochlea.
Imagine Motorhead using High On Fire's equipment after a three-day
amphetamine bender while on tour with Black Flag.
Since their
incarnation, CTW has toured with many of the punk rock legends that
till the fertile rocknroll soil of Canada.
Paddy Duddy
- Bass, Lead Vocals
Paddy "Beauty
School Dropout" Duddy is a potato-scarfin', Guinness swillin',
Hair obsessing, fenian lad born in Derry, Northern Ireland and later
weaned on punk and pints in the redneck mecca of Calgary, Alberta.
After years sitting behind the drums with Vancouver punk legends
Rusty Nails (no relation to Ron Hawkins) and a stint on pennywhistle
with a failed reggae-meets-Irish-pub-songs project (Eire Irie),
Paddy decided to evolve into a hotshot lead guitar player. Quickly
demoted, he now hangs his hat near the (heavily-distorted) bass
gear.
Mike Maggot
- Guitar, Vocals
Mike "Maggot"
Maggot is a toffee-nosed, hair-farmin' British turd transplanted
to the Dominion when he was wee mewlin' pukin' bairn. After too
many years in a dark basement with nothing but Black Sabbath, Sex
Pistols and ZZ Top albums Mike injured eardrums around the Lower
Mainland in Eugene's Axe. Following the Eugene's Axe years, Mike
co-founded the Fruits
of Iniquity as Maggoty Mango with drummer Pernicious Persimmon
and bassist Heinous Huckleberry (see pictures for a shot of Maggot
reuniting with his old mates). Mike eventually found this band to
be too limiting ("We were, after all, just a jam band.")
and joined Ymir-based tribute-transcenders BC/DC with whom, as Bearded
Angus, Mike remains to this day. Maggot claims BC/DC is a "side
project" of his, though other BC/DC members dispute this.
Chris-Lite
Deluxe - Drums
Chris Lite De-Lux
is the newest member of Circle the Wagons. He is our 23rd drummer
and brings with him years of experience
as an actor in adult
films. You probably won't recognize his face as he usually "acts"
in costume. Chris Lite is revered in the industry for his work in
the clown-porn classic, "Dirty, Dirty, Clown" as well
as other stunning visual documents such as "Bozo's Bozo"
and the award winning, "Honk If You're Horny".
"When I was young, my parents used to take me to the circus.
I told them that some day I would run off and join the circus. I
doubt they had any idea what I would become. By the age of 15, I
knew that my attraction to the clowns and midgets was more than
your average kid. My walls were covered with centerfolds of clowns.
Bozo. Bubbles. Krusty. Obnoxio. I loved them all. I mean it literally.
Since then I have LOVED them all
in the verb sense."
When Chris isn't on the road drumming with Circle the Wagons, he
enjoys life on his farm in the Kootenays raising miniature ponies
and painting pictures of unicorns.
